High-Risk Roads & Intersections in Atlanta
These Atlanta roads and intersections see a disproportionate share of serious collisions.
I-75/I-85 Downtown Connector
GDOT's Downtown Connector Study measured this stretch against every other urban interstate in Georgia using 2013 to 2015 crash data. It runs roughly twice the statewide urban-interstate rate for crashes overall (400 against 200 per 100 million vehicle miles) and more than twice the rate for injury crashes (90 against 40) — but its fatal crash rate is lower than the statewide figure, 0.17 against 0.40. Heavy congestion produces a great many collisions and comparatively few deaths. The study names the Brookwood Interchange, the area around 5th Street, and the stretch between Courtland Street and Freedom Parkway as its top three crash locations. It carried 437,000 vehicles a day in 2015.
